Settling

“Mr. Russel, it’s good to hear from you,” the chipper feminine voice said on the phone. “This is Teresa Gray with Renegade Performance. How are you?”

Tommy hit the Speaker button on his phone and set it on his desk. He spun in his chair and looked over at Lilly, who was sitting on the edge of his bed. With a wave of her hand, an old-fashioned typewriter appeared in her lap, along with fake glasses on her nose. She rolled the paper into the machine before giving Tommy a thumbs-up.

“It’s great to hear from you, Teresa,” Tommy said. “I’m doing well.”

“That’s great! I’m glad to hear it. Just so you know, I’m a sales representative for the company, and I just received your purchase inquiry. I was wondering if you had time to discuss it?”

“Yeah, absolutely.”

“So, it seems like you’re looking to open a new gym in Harrisburg, Chaha. Is that correct?”

“Yup, that’s correct.”

“Well, first off, let me say congratulations. It’s amazing to see someone of your caliber taking the step from athlete to entrepreneur.”

Lilly rolled her eyes and made a stroking motion with her hand, and the two shared a silent laugh.

“Thanks,” Tommy said. “I’m definitely excited about this next step in my life.”

“And you should be. Gym ownership is a lucrative and fulfilling career.”

“I certainly hope so.”

“Now, before we get into the nitty-gritty, I’m wondering if I could ask you some questions.”

“Of course.”

“I’m just going to take some notes here while we chat,” Teresa said as the sound of keyboard typing echoed from the phone. “Would you mind telling me a little more about your gym? I would like to get an understanding of your use cases for our equipment to see if there’s anything I could advise on, or recommend based on the listing I have here.”

“Yeah, so, we’re planning the focus being more on powerlifting and strongman. We’re hoping for a fifty-fifty split. I’ll be focusing more on the powerlifting side, while one of my personal trainers will focus on the strongman side.”

“Perfect, so your scope is not the average gymgoer. Your focus is more on the experienced lifter.”

“Not necessarily. If anything, I want to spread the message that both powerlifting and strongman are for everyone. I’ve recently gotten into strongman from said trainer, and I’ve been having a blast. I want to share the message that both are perfect for anyone and, most importantly, they are fun.”

“And with the purchases you’re making with Renegade, we’ll make sure that happens.”

“I certainly hope so.”

“Okay, just give me one second.”

Lilly’s waving hand caught his attention, and Tommy hit the Mute button. “What’s up?”

“Here’s where she’s going to upsell you. She’s going to see what you’ve ordered, look through her catalog, and make suggestions for any additions. If you need me to advise you on anything, just mute and ask. Otherwise, I’ll leave it up to you.”

“Works for me.”

Tommy took the call off mute when he heard Teresa clear her throat. “Okay, so it looks like you’ve definitely done your research.
